Whale and Dolphin Watching in Mirissa, Sri Lanka - ‘Best for Blue’
Sri Lanka is the best place in the world to see Blue Whales and Spinner Dolphins. It is almost certainly the best place in the world to see both Blue Whales and Sperm Whales together. Several years ago, Dr. Charles Anderson, a British marine biologist, resident in the Maldives, developed a theory that there was a migration of whales between the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea which took them near the shores of Sri Lanka. The best time of the year is October to April with the calm see.

What Clients Say
Anoma’s knowledge made our experience very special. Also, he took the time to show us around the rock pools in front of the hotel which was very enjoyable as well as educational, we have come away with a new appreciation of what you can find. We look forward to returning back to this wonderful place in the near future.

A 5.30 am starting from the hotel to Mirissa Harbour with a good breakfast and off on the boat at 7.00 am we were extremely well looked after, and our naturalist Anoma, was very informative. After about 10 nautical miles we were very excited at the sight of the killer whales and managed to get some excellent photographs.

Good naturalist (Anoma) and well operated tour with safe and well maintained vessel. Saw blues whales and dolphins in their thousands. Siting log kept at the hotel indicates that sperm whales, turtles, and manta rays can also be seen.

I was looking to get some information about Wildlife, But while I was Galle there is no such a place, I found Anoma Alagiyawadu who is an excellent naturalist working for Galle Wildlife Tours. He is amazing and has sound knowledge of the wildlife, especially whale Watching, I recommend him to anyone for visiting before your wildlife activities.

Had a great bird and butterfly watching tour with Sameera. It was peaceful and quiet. The butterflies are very beautiful. We saw many species of birds, butterflies and dragonflies, Sameera was able to identify all of them and shared lots of interesting information with us. Thank you!

On recomandation of a local friend we booked an early morning river safari and really weren’t disappointed. we started shortly before sunrise (what a beautiful atmosphere…) and Krishan showed us from the beginning a lot of birds reptiles and plants. He stopped as long as we needed to take pictures without disturbing the animals. He even constructed a necklace from a waterlilly for me. All in all, we can only recommend the safari.
Italdiana, Munich, Germany
I did an afternoon boat trip looking for birds and I am an avid birder and have been to over 75 countries birding. I found Krishan’s trips one of the best I have done. He’s extremely knowledgeable and knows the calls of the birds and is very patient. I recommend this very highly!
